Description
The rice ear bug, also known by its scientific name Leptocorisa oratoria, is an interesting insect that belongs to the family Alydidae. This family is commonly referred to as the broad-headed bugs, due to the shape of their head. The rice ear bug is often confused with other "rice bug" species and related genera, such as Leptocorisa acuta. It can be found in rice paddies and other wetland habitats, where it feeds on rice plants and other vegetation. Despite its name, the rice ear bug doesn't actually attack the ear of the rice plant, but instead feeds on the developing seeds inside the rice panicle.
